Member Spotlight: Dara Krahne Peloquin
An SHN member for 5 years, Forestville resident Dara Krahne Peloquin reflects on how theater brings people together; the show’s that have lived on in her memories, and that time where she conducted the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus.
What are your top five favorite Broadway shows?
- Something Rotten
- Les Misérables
What was the first Broadway show you saw?
The Phantom of the Opera. I remember going in high school with my grandmother and her best friend, and I remember what an experience the entire show was, and of course going out to dinner with my family. It cemented in me that this was something that I really wanted to do when I got older — go to these amazing events and have such a wonderful evening.
Have you ever performed on stage?
I had the unique opportunity a couple years ago to be a conductor for the San Francisco Gay Men’s Choir, for one song. This was such an amazing experience being able to have the entire choir do exactly what I say. I had such a fun time for those five minutes.
What does theater mean to you?
The theater is such an amazing place that brings people together. I love introducing my daughter, who is five, to my favorite shows. I also love the opportunity to watch a show that I’ve seen a million times through her eyes and see something brand new. The theater is also a place where I have met some amazing friends, and I feel that I would’ve never met them without SHN!
What is one thing that someone would be surprised to know about you?
I may seem very confident in the outside, but I am typically very shy. Theater has really taught me to overcome much of my shyness.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I can talk to anyone as if they were an old friend.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am extremely proud of the work that I have done with the Junior League of Napa Sonoma.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a child psychologist. I do have a double BA in psych and counseling, and I feel that I’m using some of my background while parenting a very stubborn and theater conscious five-year-old.
