SHN Surprises Bay Area High School with $10,000 Donation
American Canyon High School, located in Napa County, was one of 50 high schools out of 1,000 applicants from across the country to claim a $10,000 grant from NBC’S R.I.S.E. America to support their theatre department. The grant program—created by NBC and the Educational Theatre Foundation—was inspired by NBC’s new show RISE.
At a special SHN Member exclusive advanced screening of RISE at the SHN Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, SHN surprised the students and faculty of the high school by matching the grant with a $10,000 check.
To apply for the grant, each school had to submit a video not only celebrating their theatre program, but also showing why their school should be awarded the grant and how they would use the $10,000.

From the producers of HAMILTON¸ Friday Night Lights, and Parenthood, RISE is an inspiring drama that follows the effects a high school theatre department has on its surrounding community. RISE will premiere on NBC on Tuesday, March 13.
This SHN Member-exclusive advanced screening on Monday, March 5, was followed by a live discussion with RISE star Damon J. Gillespie and Executive Producers Flody Suarez and Jeffrey Seller.
