#SHNstories – The Proposal
At SHN, we’re all about telling great stories. We’ve turned the spotlight onto you, our audience, and asked for your #SHNstories.
The first of our #SHNstories comes from Jon Weisgerber.
“I share theater with my amazing and lovely wife Lauren. A show that was part of an SHN season was Green Day’s American Idiot. Green Day is a big part of our relationship. On our first date, when we were talking about music, the band we bonded most over was Green Day. On our wedding day (2 years ago today!!!), she walked down the aisle to a bluegrass duet performing an instrumental version of “When It’s Time” and our first dance was to “Last Night on Earth.”
Before that day, Green Day, American Idiot, and SHN all played a key role in our relationship. July 5th, 2012, we attended the performance of American Idiot at the SHN Orpheum Theatre. I was a nervous wreck the entire evening before the performance because of the little box in my pocket and the burning question in my head.
As the show began, sitting next to my then-girlfriend, I felt a calm come over me because of the theater (we both work in live theater on the tech, music, and directing side of things), punk rock, Green Day, and being with her. After the show, while she was getting something at the merch booth, I went to the graffiti wall and wrote, “Tell me when it’s time… Please say tonight.”
We stepped out of the theater in front of the red carpet wall SHN had set up. I found this duo of girls to take our picture for us. After they took it, I asked if they could hold our stuff and the camera for another moment. I pulled my girlfriend in close, told her I loved her, got down on one knee, and asked her in the entryway of the Orpheum to be my wife, and she said “yes.”
Today we’re celebrating our two year wedding anniversary, and I couldn’t be happier.”
What are YOUR #SHNstories? We want to know!
